Our Journey. Our Story

Picture
This all began in Caxito, Angola 2009.
The original intent & big idea was to establish an organization to reduce & eliminate poverty. The founder thought poverty could be eliminated by freedom. Freedom is is the ability to pursue eternal health, wealth, and knowledge without the mental, physical, and psychological bondage of poverty. The original intent was to begin the organization as an international cooperative the following was the proposed offering:
1. Holistic Healthcare  |  2. Economic & Spiritual Development  |  3. Cultural, Environmental Consciousness

The first name for our organization was Liberdade Cooperação (Freedom Cooperation). After the founder returned to the United States one of the components for Liberdade Cooperação (LibCoop) was created:
True Reflections and Freedom (TRaF).
TRaF was the Cultural/Environmental component of Lib Coop. TRaF was incorporated as a non-for-profit from 2010-2012.
TRaF was an Afrikan heritage education organization. The focus of True Reflections and Freedom was to fulfill the need to expand heritage to youth of African Descent.
TRaF was dissolved & re-established as an independent, Spiritual Temple.

Hekalu Ya UKUUNKI (HYU) | Temple of the Seven Principles
True Reflections and Freedom became HYU. Hekalu Ya UKUUNKI, Kiswahili for Temple of the Seven Principles was created. HYU is a self-supported, Universal, Spiritual Temple established to acknowledge the Creator and restore the original, indigenous peoples.  In order for us to exist as a self-governing entity we all must think, know and do everything differently.

Hekalu Ya UKUUNKI, located in Chicago Territory, was created to provide a sacred space to restore an ancient spiritual foundation of knowing the self. The Temple focuses on spiritual awareness and ethical teachings. A true spiritual foundation is comprised of the Seven Principles. Our common goal to expound upon each of the Seven Principles to build on each members strength and energy to exercise ones full potential on Earth.
The Temple embraces the Seven Principles of Nguzo Saba through exercises of self awareness so that we are prepared to promote unity in the family, community and nation.

In addition to quafin being the co-founder of HYU, she has 14 years of community organizing and activist experience in the Indigenous and Afrikan community dealing with restoration from dehumanization and colonization, internationally. In an attempt to access the needs and resources in the Indigenous Afrikan community, she has partnered, collaborated and supported groups dealing with urban farming, civics and law, education, health and culture. She is working toward self-mastery while assisting with the healing necessary for Afrikans and Indigenous communities.
